چکیده

We read with interest Hawasli et al. report of a pleomorphic sarcoma metastatic to the left atrium. However, we suspect that the true site of origin is unknown, and may in fact be the heart. There are several reasons for this: the histological appearance is similar to left atrial tumors that have already been reported; the left atrium, is the most common site of cardiac pleomorphic sarcoma; all metastatic sarcomas to the heart have been in the right atrium or ventricle or have involved myocardium and/or pericardium; 3,4 the tumor appears to have been present in the heart at the time of intestinal resection, as the angiographic findings suggest, as well as the large size of the valve tumor (9 cm); tumors of such histology are very uncommon in the duodenum; histopathological findings of the duodenal specimen are not presented. At the very least, we believe that it is unknown which of the two sites is primary. For this reason, we believe that the very rare scenario of metastatic sarcoma presenting as a left atrial mass is still not demonstrated convincingly. References

Cutaneous Metastatic Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma from a Mediastinal Sarcoma

Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma, known as malignant fibrous histiocytoma, is a malignant neoplasm that arises in both soft tissue and bones. In 2002, the World Health Organization declassified malignant fibrous histocytoma as a formal diagnostic entity and renamed it 'undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma not otherwise specified.' It most commonly occurs in the lower extremities and rarely ...

Pleomorphic soft tissue sarcoma metastatic to the skin of the scalp and groin

INTRODUCTION Rarely, the dermatologistmay encounter a primary cutaneous pleomorphic sarcoma (also known as a malignant fibrous histiocytoma), an undifferentiated neoplasm thought to be of mesenchymal origin. These uncommon skin tumors typically manifest as tender subcutaneous nodules. In contrast to primary cutaneous sarcomas, we present a case of a soft tissue pleomorphic sarcomawithmultiple m...

Head and Neck Tumors: Management of Primary Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma

Introduction: Sarcomas account for 1% of all tumors originated in the head and neck regions in adults. They constitute a heterogeneous group of tumors of mesenchymal origin with multiple histological variants. The undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS) subtype is the most frequent variant with an incidence range of 2.7-38%.   Materials and Methods: This retrospective...

Metastatic undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma causing intraoperative stroke.

Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma was historically the most commonly diagnosed soft tissue sarcoma of adults. In 2002, the World Health Organization declassified malignant fibrous histiocytoma as a formal diagnostic entity. They recommended renaming the disease "Pleomorphic Undifferentiated Sarcoma". Current thoughts about the origin of this tumor are being debated. We report a case of a dediffere...

Gemcitabine and docetaxel in metastatic sarcoma: past, present, and future.

Objective. In the era of oral molecular kinase inhibitors, cytotoxic chemotherapy agents are somewhat overlooked, but remain the backbone of treatment for most cancers. Patients with non-gastrointestinal stromal tumor sarcomas, such as leiomyosarcoma, liposarcoma, and undifferentiated high-grade pleomorphic sarcoma (formerly called malignant fibrous histiocytoma), have received doxorubicin and ...
